"You are what you eat," It is a statement cannot be underestimated. There are various types of food that can contribute to spiritual well-being, . Plant-based and whole foods, which are believed to promote physical and mental clarity, as well as foods that are prepared and consumed mindfully, with gratitude and intention. Additionally, many spiritual traditions suggest certain foods, are consumed as a way to purify the body and mind. There are five foods can enhance your level of introspection and self-awareness.
Lotus Root
Lotus root symbolizes hope and transformation. In many cultures and religions throughout ages, lotus root has been used for its healing properties. Ancient Egyptians used to believe lotus plant can revive the dead‘s. Hindus and Buddhist have long regarded consumption of lotus as a way to connect with their higher self.
Lotus root crisps with lemon tahini sauce
Ingredients:
300g Thinly Sliced lotus root
organic mustard oil for frying
3 tbsp White Tahini
juice of 1 lemon
2 tsp soya sauce
1 tbsp brown rice syrup
sliced fresh chilli
dried nori seaweed flakes
Slice fresh lotus root thinly with a sharp knife. In a small pan, fill in the mustard oil needed for frying and slowly bring it up to heat. Use a wooden spoon to test the temperature of the mustard oil ensure it's sufficiently hot for frying. Gently fry the thinly sliced lotus root until crispy on both sides. For the lemon tahini sauce, mix the white tahini, lemon juice, soya sauce and brown rice syrup together in a bowl. Finely chop fresh chilli and nori seaweed flake as a garnish.
Honey
It is considered as ’the nectar of God’ by Christians, Jews and Islam. Honey also symbolizes abundance. By having regular intake of honey, not only the consumer can enjoy physical health benefits, such as lower cholesterol and rich in antioxidant,
but it is also believed that honey contains properties which lead to immortality.
Baked Tofu with honey, coriander and chill
250g Firm tofu
3 tbsp organic honey
chopped fresh parsley
half fresh chill
2 tsp white tahini
1 tbsp dashi broth
seaweed flakes
black sesame seeds
Preheat the oven to 180 degree. Grease the baking dish with mustard oil. Place blocks of firm tofu in the baking dish. In a bowl mixing, organic honey, chill, white tahini, dashi broth chopped parsley together and pour the mixture to cover the tofu. Allow to bake for 20 minutes. Serve with seaweed flakes, and black sesame seeds as garnish.
Fresh Mint
The purifying and antiseptic quality of fresh mint not only promote physical healing, for example skin irritation and joint pains, it is one of the most powerful herb to remove emotional and energetic blockages from the deepest level with its refreshing scent. It is often known as the psychic path opener.
Mint and Coriander Dip
5 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
30g Fresh Mint
30g Coriander
juice of 1 Lemon
40ml soya yoghurt
optional fresh chilli
Put the extra virgin olive oil, fresh mint, coriander, lemon juice, soya yogurt in the mixer and roughly blend the mixture. Slice the red chilli into thin rings as a garnish. Best served with flat bread.
Elderflower
Elderflower symbolizes endings and rebirth. It is originated from the Celtic festival of Samhain (Halloween) and Elder branches are hung over the doors to ward off unwanted spirits. It is also a form of protection against psychic attacks.
Summer Refreshing Elderflower Lemon Jelly
Ingredients:
5g Agar Agar Flakes 60ml Brown Rice Syrup 150ml elderflower cordial 350ml water 3 heads of elderflower, rinsed and dried (optional) Juice of 1 Lemon
Thinly sliced lemon zest
Mix the agar agar flakes and 50ml of warm water in a bowl. Stir well to allow agar agar flakes to dissolve completely. In another larger bowl, mix the elderflower cordial, elderflower heads, brown rice syrup and juice of one lemon together. Gently pour in the warm agar agar water into the mixture and stir well. Pour the mixture into ramekins and place thinly sliced lemon zests in each ramekins. Allow 2 hours to infuse and set with or without refrigeration.
Cocoa
Cocoa is one of the most heart opening food the mother earth can provide. It helps you to be creative in all areas of your life. It also helps with gaining and maintaining clarity in thoughts and emotions. It also brings a sense of peace.
Pure Cocoa Sweet Potato Pudding
3 medium Sweet potato
6 tbsp Raw cacao
30 ml Maple syrup
100ml Soya Cream Cheese
50ml Soya Yoghurt
handful of crushed hazelnut
100g fresh raspberry
Steam the sweet potatoes in a steamer until soft and thoroughly cooked. Set aside and allow them to cool. When the sweet potatoes are cool enough to work with, gently peel the skins off and place the skinned sweet potatoes in a mixer. Add raw cacao, maple syrup, soya cream cheese and soya yoghurt into the mixer and blend the ingredients until silky smooth but thick in texture. Gently fold the crushed hazelnut into the mixture to give the pudding more nuttiness taste. Pour the mixtures into ramekins or short glasses. Leave in the fridge to set for 3 hours. Served with fresh raspberry.
